Kevin wanted to go to Roswell, New Mexico for his birthday. Our only chance of getting there in time was to be abducted
by aliens who could drop us off over Area 51 after conducting the requisite anal probes.
This didn't sound ideal (we're not wearing our clean underwear), so we settled for the next best thing: Graceland.
Not a bad choice, since Graceland is one of three most recognized American landmarks around the world. The other two, in case you're wondering, are
DisneyWorld and the Piggly Wiggly. We Love the Piggly Wiggly!
Graceland sums up for many people the feeling that is America. And Elvis was (is?) the golden child of Rock n' Roll. Nay. The King.
And Kevin is the King of this Website. So it all made sense.
As so often happens, our expectations of Graceland were wrong, wrong, wrong. What do you think of when you think of Graceland? Rooms and rooms full of freaky statues and mirrors and patterns and monkeys hanging from stuff? Well, that may be Michael Jackson's home, but that ain't Graceland.
Graceland is just a guy's home. A guy who happens to own an extraordinary number of gold records, yes. But it's just a home that happened to be last designed in the 1970's when shag carpeting was the way to go.
I mean, I once saw a picture of Kev's dad taken in the 70's. He was wearing a plaid shirt and plaid pants,
and sitting on a plaid couch. This was much creepier than anything we saw at Graceland.
This doesn't mean that we didn't enjoy the visit. It certainly felt as though we were in the home of the King, we just didn't feel that we were in the home of a demented King.
Speaking of crazy Kings, do you think one day they'll rope off Mel as the Home of the King of this Website?

You would think I would have remembered on time, since we share the same day, but sadly I did not. :(
Graceland was an excellent choice. I spent my birthday in the beautiful town (city, perhaps?) of Moncton. I was running a training session
there and had a blast! 'The people in Moncton were very friendly. (My cab driver decided to take me for an unrequested tour in which he
actually pointed out the operating hours of the nearby Walmart).
Yes, I agree, you don't look a day over 40. I , on the other hand, turned 16 again!
